The Thunderbird runners, jumpers, vaulters, throwers and hurdlers will be competing in the Las Vegas Relays along with California Lutheran College, Colorado College and host University of Nevada (Las Vegas). The meet is a true "open" event with almost any amateur competitor welcome. In addition to the regular track and field meet Saturday, the relays will include decathalon Carl Cochrane is throwing the shot and discus with an injured thumb, and L. D. Shakespear, a threat in both the 880 and mile, suffered a lower leg injury on the first lap of the mile and will probably not compete at Las Vegas this week. Point winners at the Ogden meet included Block in the 3000-meter 3000-meter steeplechase; the 440-yard relay team of Brown. Hedlund, Barry Whitaker and Allen Lewis; Cochrane in the shot put; Lewis in the high jump; the mile relay team of George Stransky, Kirk Taylor, Whitaker and Brow n, and Taylor in the triple jump. t |
