Show ROLLO-glyphics I would like to take the column this week to make an announcement an-nouncement of a policy change that will become effective with the April , 11 edition of the "Record." As of that date we will discontinue the Parowan section of the paper. Hopefully I now have your attention, so that I might more explain the complete policy change. First off let me tell you that we will not discontinue the inclusion of Parowan News in our paper, but rather, will incorporate the news from that community to the various other sections of the paper. I have felt for a long time that the separation of the news from An example of duplication would be the recent issue of the Record in which two storeis were carried reporting the baseball game in which Cedar High and Parowan High met. One story on the sports page, should be sufficient suf-ficient for all of our readers. We would appreciate hearing from you regarding this change. Mrs. Norman (Mary Gae) Evans, will continue to serve as our reporter from Parowan and residents in that area are encouraged en-couraged to contact her with items that they wish to place in the Record. A parting thought, taken from the Waitsburg, Wash., Times: "How come a slight tax increase costs $200 while a substantial tax cut saves you 30 cents?" Parowan into a specific section has been contrary to the overall interests of the publication as a county newspaper. It appears to us that if there is a wedding that involves residents of Parowan, that item should be included in a society section rather than on the Parowan page. Similarily reports of sporting activities of the Parowan Rams could just as well be included in the Sports section where it would draw the attention and readership reader-ship of all subscribers to the Record and not just the residents of Parowan. Many times items concerning activities in Parowan are worthy of inclusion on the front page of the Record, but, in the past have been placed on the Parowan page and therefore appealed to a select group of readers. It is our intention that all stories from Parowan will be properly identified with a dateline so that the reader will know at the outset the origin of the story. We hope to accomplish several things with this change. First, and foremost, we hope to make the Iron County Record a more complete publication representing the entire area.. Second, we hope to encourage readership of all items contained in the paper by all readers. Other points that w e feel w ill be favorable will be the enlargement of various sections, particularly the society and sports sections, to broaden the coverage on those pages, and finally we hope to avoid duplication. j |
