Show Academy of Science awards accorded Professor at SUSC III IB. He originated the Campus Community Theatre program in Cedar City when he first arrived to teach here, 15 years ago, after receiving BA and MA degrees from Brigham Young University. Dr. John M.Elzey, Weber State drama department, read the citation. Dr. Elzey is a former visiting director for the Utah 4 Shakespearean Festival. "Distinguished Service Awards are awarded outstanding . ) persons in the state contributing I to the fields of arts and letters, i biological science, social science j and physical science," Dr. Hayle 1 Buchanan, Academy secretary, said. , The originator of a unique Campus Community Theatre program and founding director of the Utah Shakespearean Festival has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award in Arts and Letters from the Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters. Fred C. Adams, chairman of the Department of Communications Com-munications and Theatre Arts at Southern Utah State College, received the- award for contributions con-tributions to the field of drama. Each year the Academy makes two such awards, this year for arts and letters and for physical science. "The Academy is over 50 years old and is made up of professional educators and , professionals working to advance science and arts and letters in the state of Utah," Buchanan said, ' There are about 550 Academy members, most of them in Utah. Mr. Adam's citation will be recorded in the Academy's published proceedings. - - - |
