Show Redmen split series with South Sevier Rams r r.- Ui- " w ft1 ?M r x -r v - , .-: IV"- I x tJ Mistakes were costly to the Cedar High School Redmen Friday afternoon when they dropped the second game of a double header, 3-2 to the Rams of South Sevier. The Redmen had picked up a 10-7 come-from-behind victory in the first game of the double header and had taken a 2-1 lead after one inning of play in the second game before giving up two runs in the third, to lose the abbreviated five inning affair. Lee Holmes and Kevin Cox combined on the mound to pick up the victory in the first game. Holmes went five innings and was the winning pitcher. Cox hurled the two innings without allowing a hit or run. Holmes belted the only home run of the series, a solo blow in the first inning of play. It was the fifth inning when the Redmen put the game on ice. Trailing 7-4 going into the bottom half of the inning the Redmen pushed in six runs on three hits all singles by Bob Piatt, Ray Meyers and Steve Jenson. Neither team scored in the sixth and Cox set the Rams down in order in the top of the seventh to end the game. In the second game South Sevier came on strong with W. Lee belting a triple to open the first frame. It was a line drive to ceterfield and got past Brad Lambeth when he charged attempting at-tempting a shoe string catch. W. Lee scored from third on an infield in-field ball to the shortstop. The play at home was wide of the SAFE AT HOME. Lee Holmes of the Cedar High School Redmen slides into home safely to score run on passed ball. Redmen won opener 10-7 but lost second game 3-2. mark and late. The Redmen came bouncing back in the bottom of the frame. Jeff Jenson led off with a double and scored on a double by Piatt. Piatt came on to score on a single by Holmes. Unfortunately it was the only three hits of the game for the i Redmen as Shipp of the Rams set the Redmen down for the rest of the game. In the third frame South Sevier collected two of their four hits and two more runs to tie and take the lead. With two away Carr singled. He came on to score the tieing run on a triple by Shipp. Shipp then scored on an overthrow over-throw at third on the relay from the outfield for the winning run. Cornell Christensen was the losing pitcher giving up only four hits. He was also robbed of a game tieing home run in the bottom of the fifth frame on a spectacular catch by the Ram left fielder, Wiley. Wiley crashed into the left field fence to make the catch and held it to save th( run. In the bottom of the third the Redmen failed to score wher Holmes was trapped off seconc after drawing a walk, on a sacrifice play. |
