Show New 4-H Horse Clubs organized Four-H horse clubs are currently being organized throughout Iron County. These clubs are organized in much the same way other 4-H clubs are organized except they have horses as their project. According Ac-cording to Lynn Esplin, Iron County Extension Agent horses are the fastest growing 4-H project in Utah and the United States. Boys and girls from 9 to 19 are eligible to join a 4-H horse club if they have access to a horse they can care for. Young people who are interested in belonging to a club should contact the Iron County Extension office in Cedar City, their 4-H community supervisor or the 4-H horse club leader in their area. Plans are to hold a number of inter-club horse shows this summer. The district 4-H horse show will probably be held in St. George in August with the winning win-ning teams participating in the state horse show at state fair time. In addition to learning horsemanship, hor-semanship, showing, and timed events for the horse shows, club members also learn about feeding and care of horses, horse safety, and health. |
