Wyatt's project, "The Effects of Diverse Materials on Plants," won him an SUSC scholarship and a trip to the International Science Fair. Students from Hurricane High School and Woodward Junior High, in St. George, were big winners at the regional Science Fair just completed at Southern Utah State College. Jared C. Stucki, Hurricane, and David Earl Christian, St. George, will each receive expense ex-pense paid trips to the International In-ternational Science Fair hosted by Notre Dame University at South Bend, Indiana. In addition each will also have expenses paid to the Ogden regional Science Fair, and Stucki, a senior, will receive a scholarship to Southern Utah State College. Stucki's project in the fair was titled "Space Transporting Supercooled Solid Objects-Practical? Objects-Practical? Feasible?" It dealt with the possibility of reducing the mass of metals for easier extraterrestrial transportation. "Behavioral Characteristics of Gerbils" was the title of Christian's exhibit and research. The reaction of gerbils to sound and colors was demonstrated in the project. Major individual winners in the junior high (seventh and eighth grades) division were Lori Yates, Debbie Stevens, and Bonnie Miller, Cedar Junior High; and Sean Brazell, Woodward Junior High. They will receive expense paid trips to the Ogden regional fair. ' The Yates-Stevens-Miller project involved smoking and its effects on lungs, while Brazell's exhibit was titled "Water Purification." The sweepstakes trophy, awarded to the school winning the most places in the regular science fair competition (excluding (ex-cluding special sponsor awards), was won by Woodward Junior High. Jack Heppler, Science teacher at Woodward, accepted the award for the school. SUSC Scholarships were also awarded to Scott Zingelman, Piute High School, and Wyatt Gordon, Cedar City High School, for outstanding exhibits in the senior high competition.
