Show Rollo-Glyphics L Rollo This week has special meaning to us here at the Iron County Record. It seems that with this . issue of the "Record" we begin another year of operation, a tradition that goes back 85 years. Yes, this is the first issue of our 85th year at the "Record" and we are proud of the tradition that has been established over that period of time. May we at the Record pledge to you, our readers, that we will attempt to continue that tradition for many, many years to come. We thank the residents of southern Utah for their continued support. The Record has existed as the result of that support-the input that comes from our readers. We thank you and will continue to strive to make our pulbication one that represents the area; one that has meaning to you, one that can be informative in-formative and enjoyable to read and to bring into your homes. Thank you. Of course I haven't been around for the full circle of that 85 years of publication-it just seems like it. But do any of you readers remember a winter-it officially became winter on Tuesday, Dec. 21 like we are having? Much has already been written and said about the significance of the lack of snow as far as the winter recreation aspect is concerned. My concern is one of available water for our use during the coming spring and summer season. Like one resident told me the other day: "I can't do anything about the weather so I might just as well enjoy it while I can.". : And I guess he's right. Possibly we will pick up the moisture that we so badly need in our mountains moun-tains to get us through the next year. I certainly hope so. One observance that I made during the past week was how many people have had their lawn sprinklers on. I don't believe, in my relatively short lifetime, that I can ever remember sprinkling the lawns on the first day of winter. Can any of you readers? I've already mentioned that winter officially arrived on December 21. Although the usual evidence of winter, snow, is not here the fact remains that other evidences are still around us. Within the week we will begin to notice that the daylight will begin a little earlier and stay with us a little longer, and I like that. May I take this opportunity to express to you, from our entire staff, a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Truly may the joys of the Christmas season attend you and be with you through the new year. |
