Show Chamber of Commerce to Sponsor Race Meet The Parowan Chamber of Commerce Com-merce is making plans to spon-, sor a two-day race meet in Parowan Par-owan on Thursday, May 30, Memorial Day, and Saturday, June 1, it was disclosed when officers of that organization met with the City Council Monday evening to request permission to use the city race track on those days for such an event. Meeting with the council were Robert B. Mitchell, president, and Clinton Thornton, vice president of the chamber. They stated that they had gained permission to use the t'ack for the meet from the Red Hill Wranglers, local horsemen's club, who holds a lease on the track and grounds. The Wranglers at a meeting the Saturday night before had made a decision not to put on a racing program over the Mem-orial Mem-orial Day week end as they have in the past, but will devote their entire efforts to their big annual event on July 4. In making this decision the horsemen group waived their rights to the track for the early meet, and the chamber cham-ber will therefore make plans for the early meet. The chamber officials also requested re-quested permission from the city to place a sign, which they are having made, on the corner of I Main and Center streets, between the curb and sidewalk. The sign 1 is made up of arrows which will ' direct tourists to various scenic attractions in the Parowan area, and give mileage to each of the attractions. The request was granted providing pro-viding there Is no objection to such a sign being made by the state road department. |
