Show County Teachers Offered Higher Salary Schedule Salaries for teachers In the Iron County school district for the 1957-58 school year have been established by the board of education and will range from $3800 for beginning teachers to $G,000 for teachers with 16 years of service. These salaries are for teachers holding bchelor de. grees. The salary schedule was proposed pro-posed last week at the meeting of the board and a delegation representing the teachers. After discussion of finance problems the board made the proposal and the delegation then approached the teachers, who In turn aecep. ted the schedule as satisfactory. In fact, the sentiment among the teachers seemed to be that the board had been most fair In providing pro-viding a substantial raise and the schedule would be adopted without further questioning. Upon receiving the reports from the various teacher groups Superintendent Ianthus Wright began preparation of a tentative budget of expenditures for the school year, which will be presented pre-sented to the board at its regu-lark regu-lark meeting early In May. The schedule provides that the beginning teacher with a bachelor's bach-elor's degree will receive $.1800 for his or her first year of service. ser-vice. After 15 years of service or for the 16th year of teaching the individual will receive $6000. A teacher holding a master's degree de-gree will receive $200 more per year than will the teacher with a bachelor's degree with the same amount of experience, or $1000 for the first year and $6200 for the 16th year. In spite of the fact that this is among the very best salary schedule in the state It Is expect-er expect-er that a rather large number of vacancies will need to be filled before the opening of school in September. Some are leaving the district to accept employment elsewhere, others Indicate that they will leave to continue their studies, others will leave ?he profession, and as usual matrimony matri-mony will remove some young women teachers from the rolls. |
