Show Four Seek Postmaster Position At Cedar City Station Speculation as to who will succeed Gilbert L. Janson as postmaster at the Cedar City post office after May 31 Is running high with four candidates for the position seeking support of residents. resi-dents. Mr. Janson, who has held the position for the past 21 years, submitted his resignation some time ago to become effective on May 31. and will definitely retire re-tire from the service on that date. Two members of the present staff at the post office, Rulon S. Wood and Vernon A. Jones, have been candidate for the position from the time Janson's resignation resigna-tion was submitted. Since that time two other applications have been filed, including Morris C. Roberts, local furniture dealer, and Smoot Seaman, local circulation circula-tion manager for the Deseret News. Mr. Wood Is currently serving as assistant postmaster, a posi-tion posi-tion he has held since World War II. Jones held a similar position po-sition although not so designated, designat-ed, before he entered military service during the war. Both have had many years of experience exper-ience In the pastal service. It is understood that the Iron County Republican committee will meet tonight to consider the political acceptability of the four men, and to make recom-menations recom-menations to Congressman Hen- ry A. Dixon, who in turn will make recommendations to the Postal Department. Each applicant appli-cant must, of course, pass a civil ci-vil service examination before he can be considered for the appointment. |
