Show Cancer Society to Conduct Educational Rnd Fund-Raising Crusade Through Next Week "Answers to Questions that May Help Save Your Life" is the title of a leaflet the American Can"er Society volunteers will leave at all homes in Cedar City as the educational and fund raising crusade is conducted next week. "Wp hnrw to mnke this the greatest educational effort ever undertaken by the society in its fight to help protect our people from death from cancer," Airs. Paul Lunt, crusade chairman, said. "Our volunteers will not be content until every home has a copy of the ACS leaflet because the home is the place where protection pro-tection against death from cancer can-cer begins." If every family reads and follows fol-lows the mesage in the leaflet , brought into the home, one out ' of two who develop cancer could be saved. Much of the responsibility responsi-bility for loss of life from cancer depends on the individual. It is your responsibility to know cancer's seven danger signals sig-nals and visit your doctor if any one of them persist more than two weeks. Cancer usually starts quietly and spreads without pain. In the beginning, a danger signal may seem very unimportant unimport-ant to you, but it could he most important to your life. It is Important for you to know that 75'; of the 76,000 men and women who will develop cancer of the colon and rectum this year could be saved by tarly diagnosis and prompt treatment. The best protection against death from this disease is a simple procto-1 scopic examination once a year. Cancer of the lung is the most rapidly mounting cause of death from cancer. What can you do about it? Stop smoking cigarettes if you are already a smoker, and if you do not smoke, don't start. The American Cancer Society says that if no one smoked cigar-tettes cigar-tettes a great majority of lung cancers would be prevented. The American Cancer Socictv is speaking in the interest of all of us when it urges every adult to have an annual health check up. Many cancers discovered during an annual health checkup check-up can be cured. Are we petting anywhere with cancer? The answer is "yes". More than 1,200,000 people are alive today, cured of cancer. Improvements Im-provements in surgery, radiation, use of drugs, new techniques of diagnosis, beter facilities for treatment are saving the lives of tens of thonsands of Americans annually. Costly research has accomplished accomp-lished much of this.
