Show Production of "II Trovatore" Underway This Week at CSU The College of Southern Utah production of Verdi's "II Trova-I Trova-I tore" opened Wednesday, April ! 8 at 8:15 p. m. in the CSU Audi-I Audi-I torium. Nightly performances will continue through Saturday, April 11. Under the direction of Dr. ! Blaine Johnson and Professor Roy L. Halversen, the chorus and or- chestra of 90 support the double I cast of principals who have been working on roles throughout the year. Dally rehearsals held during dur-ing the past weeks have prepared pre-pared the opera company for top performances in the long-waited production. The Verdi work has presented a definite challenge to the Col-lege Col-lege group, but the assignment has been well met. There is a current belief among opera go ers, and even among critics, that no study can make the plot of "II TrovatoreH into a coherent, intelligible drama. The libretto Is written In a pompous, flowery "libretto Italian as was the mode of the day. To make things even more confusing, queer blunders blun-ders and infelicities have crop ped up in the English transla tion. However, the faithful at tempt to achieve accuracy In staging and Interpretation will be recognized by Verdi fans as tht y view the CSU production. Information on tickets can be obtained at the CSU box office or at Information Service at the College. ' |
