Show Cedar High School Basketball Squad Will Tangle with Basic in Cedar City Saturday The Cedar City High School Redmen, suffered two defeats in the opening week of the basketball basket-ball season, will take on only one opponent this week-. Basic High of Henderson, Nev. The game will be at the College Col-lege of Southern Utah flcldhouie Saturday evening and will begin at 8 p. m. There will be no B squad encounter that night, Coach Bruce Decker Indicated. Basic has always been a tough opponent for the Redmen and this year Coach Decker is working work-ing hard to shape up his crew In preparation for the battle. Against Millard and Pan-gultch Pan-gultch last week ne tried several combinations and as yet has not decided on a definite quintet for the starting call. A number of sophomores were given opportunity In the two games and undoubtedly will see action this week as well. Collins Watson was called on In both games for the starting call at forward with Wes Roberts, a Junior Jun-ior and Sandy Webster, another sophomore given the opportunity to play at this position. The other four starting posts seem more secure with Neil Roberts Rob-erts at center, and two other seniors, sen-iors, Hans Chamberlain and Dan Jones at the guard spots. Lee Hunter a Junior was the other starting forward for Coach Decker. Deck-er. Another sophomore, John Black, saw considerable action in the games at the guard spot. Don Keid, a Junior saw limited action ac-tion at guard as did Dick Lambeth Lam-beth a sophomore at forward when Hunter fouled out in both ' games. Mike Carr another iuomore was in '.he Panguitch game and two other squad members, Kent Humphries, a junior and Steve Smith, sophomore, are still looking look-ing forward to their first game. The team, extremely green, has not Jelled as yet. They are having difficulty with their passing, pas-sing, and defensively they are not maintaining position and are commiting costly fouls. They gave up 35 and 36 foul pitches respectively, Friday and Saturday, Satur-day, but held their own in the fieldgoal department |
