Show New Equipment Installed in Ceramics Division of College Art Department Increased Interest In ceramics at College of Southern Utah has brought about an enlargement of this phase of the art department depart-ment including the installation of a high heat 29 cubic foot propane pro-pane kiln and other related equipment. Thomas Leek", chairman of the I Art Department, Indicated that with the addition of new facilities faci-lities utilization of clays in the Iron County area will now be more feasible. In addition to the huge new kiln, the installations include a damp room with controlled humidity hu-midity and a pugmill and blun-ger blun-ger used In processing the local clays. The kiln, which will reach temperatures as high as 2500 degrees Fahrenheit In a matter of seconds, will make it possible for art students to create an unlimited un-limited variety of ceramic pieces in all sizes ranging up to large ceramic sculpture. A greater abundance of color ranges can also be obtained through the Improved firing process pro-cess according to Mrs. Mary Mac-Donald, Mac-Donald, who directs the ceramic work at CSU. |
