Show Underground Explosion Test Planned by AEC I A single chemical high-explosive (non-nuclear) detonation of 500. tons, burled at a depth of 125 feet. Is scheduled for firing at the Atomic Energy Commission's Commis-sion's Nevada Test Site as part of a series of high-explosive ex-periments ex-periments being conducted to obtain ob-tain Information on the entering effects of explosives for the nw- share Program. Plowshare, is the Commission's study program for the peaceful uses of nuclear explosives ex-plosives In applications such as civil engineering, production of Isotopes and power, and development develop-ment of natural resources. The 500-ton detonation is scheduled sche-duled for firing at 6:00 a.m. (Pacific Daylight and Mountain Standard Times) on July 12, 1960, In the northern section of Yucca Flats. This experiment will be open to observation by accredited news media representatives. The detonation is planned to obtain additional Information on the relationship between energy yield, depth of burial, and the crater size resulting from the explosion. |
