Show LIVING IN THE ESCALANTE VALLEY By Mrs. Jack MeyU WOMEN'S CLUB The Escalante Valley Women's Club meeting for the month cf July was held at the home of Mrs. Alene Smith with Mrs. Phyllis Phyl-lis Wood as co-hostess. A gay atmosphere at-mosphere of flowers, lanterns and chimes welcomed the guests as they approached the lawn of Mrs. Smith's home. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Berrett of Cedar City were special spe-cial guests of the evening. Gene Butler's mother was also a guest of the evening. After business was disposed of the time was devoted de-voted to and enriched by music played and demonstrated by Mr. Berrett on his electric organ. He had several ladles do some trying try-ing out to show how easily the organ could be played and entertainment en-tertainment through the organ could be had by even those of little or no music ability. 4-K ENCAMPMENT AH five of the Escalante Valley 4 II groups attended the July encampment en-campment at Duck Creek. All of the clubs participated in the program pro-gram The three girls' groups were under the supervision of, Delia Delvecchlo, Mamie Walters and Edith Hunt. The first and second year boys' club performed perform-ed together. The boys were under un-der the supervision of Bryner Wood, Nils Nlelson and Don Applegate. The boys' club were under the name of the Live Wires of Beryl. The boys and the leaders made good use of their electrical project while on the mountain as they had rigged up an outfit and generated electricity electri-city to light their camp. The boys of the valley took a first place in log sawing and the Little Cup Cakes took first place In their song. LEADERSHIP MEETING The Uvada Stake held its conjoint con-joint leadership meeting at Enterprise En-terprise Sunday night July 21 and a large crowd from the three Nevada and three Utah wards attended. at-tended. The preliminary program was given by the Sunday School. James Andrus, the MIA regional reg-ional suprintendent wls a special spe-cial guest invited to speak to hc MIA groups. Mr. Andrus was accompanied by Mrs. Andrus. An-drus. THE LIONS Dr. Palmer, originally from the State of Texas, who has been working for some time on the effect of the fallout of the atomic atom-ic bomb on animals, gave a lecture lec-ture in connection with an orlg-.l fna film of the atomic bomb blasts and their fallout at the meeting of the Escalante Valley Lions Club. Accompanying Dr. Palmer was a partner from the state of Kansas. The Lions supper was prepared and served by Mrs. Delia Delvecchlo, Delvec-chlo, Mrs. Myrtle Anzalone of Beryl and Mrs. Virginia Herrera of Zane. The next Lions club meeting will be ladies, night. SAND DUNE TUN A group of home folks met Saturday night, July 27 at the large sand dunes for a weenie roast and water melon bust. Old and young were entertained with rides on the cable extending from the large dune. Groups roasted weenies around several fires. Many of the young fry felt the softness and coolness of the earth as they sank their bare feet deep Into the clean fine sand. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Delvecchlo and family, fam-ily, Mr. and Mrs. Nielse Nlelson and family, Mr. and Mrs. David Love and family, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Austin and family, M. and Mrs. Dewey Goddard and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Blasi and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bryner Wood and family, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Laub and family, Augusta Au-gusta Hunt and family, Mary and Rose Ann Moyle, Harold Jenson, Grandma Moyle and the Jack Moyle family. More of these fun evenings are expected before cold weathher sets in. FAMILY REUNION A large crowd which almost filled the recreation hall at the chapel attended the Hunt Family reunion at Enterprise on Monday July 22. There were many relatives rela-tives of the Valley in attendance attend-ance along with those from nearby near-by towns and far away places. They enjoyed an afternoon of sports and an evening supper, program and meeting. Arnold Hunt of Salt Lake City, president of the organization, conducted the meeting. Albert E. Hunt also of Salt Lake City showed slides that had been taken tak-en while he, his wife and Mr. Kirkham, genealogist researcher, were gathering data from cemeteries ceme-teries In Kentucky and South Carolina, for It was in that part of our country that the Hunts settled as they came from the old country. Officers for the coming com-ing year were elected by the family fam-ily organization. HERE and THERE Edna Thorley, Rosellia Hills, Darlene Pendleton, Nora Austin and Violet Fife were Uvada Stake Primary guests on Monday night. July 22, at a Trail Builder Build-er Fun-da-lay held at Rose Park In Caliente under the direction of the Caliente Ward Primary. Mr. and Mrs. Luther Lawson and sons Tery and Robert of Ft. Collins, Colo., spent several days with the John Smiths. Mrs. Law-son Law-son is a sister of Mr. Smith. Dudley Shelley of Pamona, Calif, and George Gestakys of Whittier conducted church services ser-vices out at the Valley. Lewis Love, a brother of David Love, spent several days with Mr. and Mrs. David Love and family enroute from San Fernando to Virginia where he will attend college. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bosshardt, their son and daughter, Tony and Vickl, also a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Hunter of Cedar City, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Myers of1 Panguitch. Little Cathy Wood, daughter of Alex and Marty Wood, was honored at a birthday party on July 22. Those present were Mrs. Gene Butler and children, Mrs. Bruno Bias! and children and Mrs. Don Applegate and children. Ice cream and cake was served for refreshments. Bruno Blasi has been named as the Farm Bureau representative for the Escalante Valley. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Layne and sons of Denver, Colo., have been visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Piper. Mrs. Layne is a sister of Mrs. Piper. Ralph Gardner had to return o the Iron County Hospital on Friday, July 26. Mr. Gardner will have to remain in the hospital for a few more days but is considered con-sidered to be getting along fairly well. Mr. Gardner's son. Ralph Gardner. Gard-ner. Jr., was granted an extra two weeks leave by the Air Force because of his father's condition. Miss Yvonne Fife arrived home July 30 for a short visit with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Fife. Miss Fife Is nursing at the Huntington Hun-tington Memorial Hospital at Pasadena, Calif. |
