Show EIGHT TEAM EVENT Pony League All-Stars to Begin Tourney Eight Pony League all-star j teams from Utah, Wyoming and Idaho will converge on Cedar City next Tuesday afternoon in preparation for the District 7 Pony League tournament which gets under way Wednesday, Aug. 7 and runs, possibly through Aug.. 10. Cedar City's Pony League all-' stars will meet Springville Ponyj League in the opening round in! a game tentatively set for 11:30, a. m. I Wednesday's opener will pit j a second place team from the( Springville-Spanish Fork area against Provo's No. 1 all-star team. Other pairings will be as follows: fol-lows: Helper, first place winner in the Carbon County area, against Pocatello, Idaho; Price, Carbon County second place entry, en-try, against Provo second place entry, and Cedar against Springville. Two complete rounds will be played on the opening day with games getting under way at 8 a. m. Reason for this heavy first day schedule, according to tournament tour-nament director Cleo Petty, is to eliminate the possibility of any team having to play over two game in one day. The tournament is a double-elimination double-elimination type meet with teams with a single loss still vying for the championship ana the right to enter the regional tournament to be held at Watsonville, Calif. Members of the Cedar City j Pony League all-stars include: Jeff Marchant, Rue Gene Rollo, Lory Misel. Calvin Hair, Kent Smith, Butch Thompson, Robert Lee, Douglas Mi-Knight, Larry Anderson, Steve Cahoon, Dennis Slack, Donnie Roberts. Danny Lindsay, Sam Chamberlain and Leigh Rosenberg The Pony League all stars will appear in an exhibition game Friday evening at the Lions park against a Pony League team from Salt Lake City. Came time will be 8 p. m. The public is invited. |
