Show Broncos Clipped In Home and Home Exchange A two-game winning streak of the College of Southern Utah basketball squad was snapped short and equalled In two outings out-ings over the week end against arch rival, Dixie College. Coach Boyd Adams' Broncos took an early lead in the Friday evening contest, moving out to a 27 to 23 halftime lead over the hosts nt St. George. They contin-.ued contin-.ued the pace during the early minutes of the second half with Paul Rasmussen leading the scoring attack for the Broncos. Rebels Take Lead Midway in the second half, however, the Rebels caught fire and outran the Broncos to move Into a lead, which was stretched to as high as 10 points. Charlie Brlndley came In for the Broncos Bron-cos and hit two fast field goals srd tanked four foul pitches Is as many tries to help close the gap, but time ran out and the Rebels had regained the "Axe," symbol of rivalry between tue two southern Utah colleges. Saturday evening the two squads met in the CSU field-house field-house In a game that would have to be seen to be absolutely appreciated. ap-preciated. Dixie moved out to a 5 to 0 lead early in the game before the Rroncos could get moving at all then two foul trios by Theron Archibald and two by Rasmussen were mossed. Trailing 9 to 0 and seven minutes min-utes and three seconds Into the game. Rasmussen hit a f'eld goal for the first Bronco score of the game. The torrid pace continued with the .Rebels moving out to a 13 to 2 lead with Alan Worthen. a product of Panguitch High, doing most of the scoring on some fine drives. " Late In Half Rasmus-sen finally hit a foul try and aoJed anotner field goal to up the Bronco total to 5 points, i with shot after shot by the Bron- cos and three other foul pitches missing. Joe Castillo, hit for a field goal with just over three minutes left In the half to bring the total to 9 and he missed two foul pitches with just seconds remaining re-maining with the crowd hen ging for a score of at least two figures before intermission time. The Broncos didn't make it. They wound up with nine points in the 20 minutes of play. In one of the most freakish games ever wit-1 nessed In the area. Coach Adams' crew took a total of 11 foul attempts at-tempts In the half and converted only one. The percentage fmm the field was even worse. Starting Start-ing cold the Broncos grew progressively pro-gressively colder as the game continued. Dixie had posted 23 points lor a convincing lead at j the half-way mark. Castillo came out In the sec- ond half of play and led thei CSU Broncos for a short rally to move to within nine points of the visiting Rebels, but Worthen and some fine shooting by Richard Rich-ard Miller kept the Rebels substantially sub-stantially In the lead. Combinations Tried Coach Adams tried a number of combinations but each man who came off the bench was plagued by the same cold streak. Not only were the Broncos cold at the hoop but It spi.'ad throughout the squad In bad passes, lack of drive, Indecision and frustration. It was without a doubt one of the most unusual games even,' witnessed, and cotil l not be considered con-sidered a true characteristic of the squad. In previous games against Nevada Southern of Las Vegas and in the first meeting of the two squad, the Bronco scoring punch seemed somewhat effective. Saturday evening's game was apparently a phenomenon of circumstances, cir-cumstances, attitudes and possibly pos-sibly too much Individual consciousness con-sciousness compounded from minute to minute as the game progressed.
