Bayles, board member from Parowan, Par-owan, voting against such action. This action, according to Mr. Bayles, and Ralph Orton, who will succeed Bayles on the board after the first of the year, is seriously ser-iously objected to by residents of Parowan. The farm situation was discussed dis-cussed at a public meeting at Tarowan the week before, at which a number of Parowan people peo-ple expressed the opinion that the program was of value to the students and that the board should support it financially. The farm was purchased several sev-eral years ago by members of the F F A chapter. Later the School Board approved the expenditure ex-penditure of money for repairs on the well pumping system, and also to pay for the 1957 power pow-er bill for pumping. In that year produce could not be sold, and funds were not available to meet power costs. It Is understood that the farm was not operated this year, and the chapter leader had suggested that the farm be placed In the Farm Bank, an action ac-tion which the board refused to approve. At the meeting of the board. It approved advancing $1500 tv the chapter at this time to pay off a note at the Bank of Iron County and to be used for pumping pump-ing costs In 1959. It is understood under-stood that the school board has now advanced approximately $1.-700 $1.-700 to the chapter, the obligation that the board requests to be paid if the farm Is sold. Mr. Bayles states that he opposed op-posed the action because he feels that the project Is a valuable educational function and that it should receive annual financial support from the district |
