Show REPORT RECEIVED College Accredited by Commission Full accreditation by the High.) er Commission of the Northwest Association of Secondary and Higher Schools has been granted College of Southern Utah according accord-ing to the report received Wednesday Wed-nesday by Dr. Royden C. Braith-waite, Braith-waite, director of CSU. Director Bralthwalte attended a meeting of the association in Portland, Ore., Dec. 1-3 following follow-ing the visit of a special repre sentative committee to the campus cam-pus in Cedar City Nov. 13-15. Tho association rates standings of colleges and institutions in fivej western states and Alaska. j The association praised CSU for providing a very satisfactory educational program to students in Southern Utah. They also-lauded also-lauded the community of Cedar j City for the excellent moral andj financial support given to the college. The report commended the faculty fa-culty members for the keen Interest In-terest they show in helping students stu-dents to "find themselves" and i to pursue with success the educational edu-cational programs best suited to their needs. "Staff morale is high, and teaching is oonseion-i tious and usually competent," according to the findings. j Receiving special praise was the program for orienting new students, for testing and counseling, counsel-ing, for providing health services Tr housing students, and for i"i , - in" grants-in-aid. "Onoral-j "Onoral-j ly these areas are planned, well staffed and working smoothly," continued the report. Much favorable attention was devoted to the Division of Education Educa-tion at CSU. Praise was particularly particu-larly directed to efforts in the field of elementary education jand the close cooperation with the Iron County Public Schools. The liberal arts program was extolled ex-tolled for Its fine features at the College. The accreditation report further stated that "the College of South, em Utah Is a thriving, stable institution which Is providing for students In southern Utah a good program of higher education." "Plans for Increasing facilities and services to meet expanding needs show that the College and the community are working har- ! moniously to make this Institution Institu-tion its program and its facilities fa-cilities one to be proud of. Areas that require attention for Improvement include increased budget for operating needs, science facilities, gymnasium for physical education instruction land more library services. |
