Show Parowan High Rams Head for St George To Open Baseball Season Against Flyers The Parowan High School base-, ball team opens league playi this Thursday, at 3 p. m. accord- j ing to Coacft John Wood, with the Parowan squad traveling to St. George for a game with the Dixie Flyer crew, ine game wasj advanced from Friday to Thurs-' day because of an invitational track and field meet set for Friday Fri-day at St George. I The Parowan team will be at a' decided disadvantage in this contest con-test in meeting the Flyers after only ten days of practice owing to the snow covered diamond at home. I Coach Wood states that his squad should be improved over last year, with regulars returning return-ing to most of the positions on the team this year. Carrying the burden on the mound will be Roger Gurr and , Robin Graff, who were regulars in this position last year, and should be improved. They will be aided" by Bill Knight, who lis practically new to th. ataff this year. Vergene Jones, who did the catching chores most of the time last year is also back from last year. He will be aided by Wayne Robinson and Mack j Clark. ! Robin Graff will be the main stay at first base with assistance from Mack Clark. Doug Murie is back at second base, with Karl Banks to back him up. Jay Graff is back at shortstop asis Bobby Cartwrlght at third, both regulars regu-lars last year. In the outfield will be Tommy Benson, La Mar Anderson, Mike Hyatt and Wayland Adams, who had some experience last year, with Tommy Taylor and Philip Bayles also tryine out there. Coach Wood states that the men mentioned may be shifted from one position to another if needed to help bolster them, with infielders going to the outfield at times when not playing the-positions the-positions listed above. . The second game on the lea?tio schedule sees the Hurri-can Hurri-can High Tigers coming to Parowan Paro-wan next week end with exact day and game time to be announced. |
