Show T-BirdsWinOne In Four In Week End Play In a pair of double-header baseball games over the week end the College of Southern Utah I Thunderblrds came up with one win and dropped three. Friday afternoon Coach Cleo Petty and his Thunderblrds traveled trav-eled to Provo to meet the Brig-ham Brig-ham Young University Cougars and dropped a pair, 9 to 2 and 25 and 0. Saturday afternoon returning to Cedar City for the first home games of the season the CSU crew split with Nevada Southern of Las Vegas, winning the first game 5 to 3 in seven innings and losing the second 8 to 3 in nine innings. In the first game against EYU Steve C'ahoon ran into control problems, allowing only two hits but giving up six walks and six runs to put the Cougars out in front early, to stay. The Cougars collected a total of 12 hits and Cahoon posted eight strikeouts in the contest. For the Thunder-birds Thunder-birds it was Gordon Loveless of Payson who came through with three hits in four trips including a double, to account for just half of the CSU hits. In the second game five homers hom-ers by the Cougars swept the Thunderblrds off their feet. Johnny Christiansen, Gary Batch-elor, Batch-elor, Bill Wright, Jim Armstrong and Joe Beecroit each homered in the 15 to 0 rout, on 17 hits. David Crecr of the Thunderbirds was on the mound. Beecroft of BYU held the T-Birds to Just two hits, one each by Reed Heywood and Dennis Slack. In the fourth one man scored after af-ter the bases had been loaded and in the fifth a timely strikeout strike-out helped eliminate the threat Losing pitcher was Syphus of i NS. Both pitchers allowed Just six hits. Karl Braithwaite of the IT-Birds put the CSU crew out in front early in the first inning with a two-run homer and they were never headed bv the Ne vada team. Jenkins of NS also homered in the contest. In the second game three pitchers for the CSU crew could not contain the bats of NS as they picked up 12 hits including two triples and two doubles to move to an 8 to 3 victory. CSU collected only two hits, one n home run by Dennis Clack off the fine hurling of Halversen of NS.
