Show CSU Music Department Presents Opera "Carmen" April 5, 6 and 7 Tiie much awaited presentation presenta-tion of Bizet's immortal "Carmen." "Car-men." opened at the College of Southern L't;ih Wednesday evening eve-ning to an enthusiastic crowd. The production by the CSU music department under the direction di-rection of Dr. Blaine Johnson and 'r.pf. Roy L. Hulversen, will con-ifiue con-ifiue each evening through Saturday Sat-urday of this week. Tiie production is the highlight f the musical year at CSU and .ias been readied over several .nonths for presentation to the public. Two large choruses of nearly j0 voices and a 50-pieee concert jrchestra have combined to pro-ide pro-ide musical accompaniment to .he nine leading roles, according to Dr. Johnson. Lead Roles Playing the leading role of 'Carmen" on opposite evenings ire Miss Cynthia Williams of Ce-Jar Ce-Jar City and Miss Lois Macfar-lane Macfar-lane of Salt Lake City. The male lead of Don Jose is sung by David Williams, popular tenor from Minersville. The tale of "Carmen" is woven around the romantic affairs of the captivating Gypsy "Carmen." Into her life comes a soldier, Don Jose, who is enticed to desert his military post to enter a smuggling smug-gling operation with the band of Gypsies. Carmen later leaves Don Jose for a new affair with a bull fgchiehtOyvosnlrnsgrwhb fighter which brings the story to its climax. The full score ofr Bizet's opera is presented by the CSU music department with the impact of full staging and costuming. Thursday evening has been set aside as "A Night at the Opera" for students at CSU, but reservations reserva-tions for Friday and Saturday evening performances may be made by contacting the CSU auditorium, au-ditorium, Dr. Johnson said. Large Cast Other leading roles include: Morales, played by Chad Heaton and Chad Thorderson; Miceala, Christine Winterrose; Zuniga, Lowell Murdock; Frasquita, Janice Ja-nice Olson and lone Lambert; Mercedes, Jane Fillmore and Claire Thurston; Dancairo, Ken Jones and Lyndon Callister; Ro-mendado, Ro-mendado, Vaughn Thomas and Brent Bauer, with Chad Heaton ana Torval TorgersojK taking the ' part of Alcade. |
