Show March Moisture Adds to Yatershed Levels Additional storms during the month of March have maintained maintain-ed high watershed conditions far above normal, according to a report re-port for April by the Soil Conservation Con-servation Service. Webster's Flat in Cedar Canyon, Can-yon, which has a water measurement measure-ment history of 35 years, is indicative in-dicative of the entire water picture pic-ture in the southern Utah area. Measurements oi i now on Aprii 1 indicated 70.G inches Contained Contain-ed in the snow pack was 250 inches of water. Over the 35 year history this course averages 13.1 inches of water, according to Le-land Le-land Carlson, conservationist. In the past three years the course has been far below this average, the report indicated. In 19P1 water content at a similar time was only 9.9 inches. In 19U0 the water content was 13.8 and in 1959 It was 11.6. Cedar Breaks is another course with a long period of records dating back i7 years. The average aver-age water "content over that period per-iod of time is 24 inches. The measurement on April 1 indicated indicat-ed 85.3 inches of snow with a water content of 33.1. In 1961 wa ter content was 18; in 1960 it was 15.4 and in 1959, 12.1. Other courses were recorded as follows: Midway Valley: 87.3 Inches of snow with 33 inches of water compared to an average water content of 25.2. In 1961 water content con-tent was 17.8; in 1960, 17, and in 1959, 13.4. Urle Flat: 32.6 snow pack with 11.8 water content. Average water wat-er is 73. In 1961 water content was 43; in 1960, 3.9 and in 1959, 2.3. Little Giassy Flat, which had no measurable snow pack over the past three years had a snow pack of 7.9 inches of water. In Parowan Canyon similar re ports indicated similar above averages on all water courses. Long Flat had 25.5 inches of snow with water content of 9.7 compared to an average of 4.9 over the past six years. Water content in 1961 was 5.5, it was 3.2 in 1960 and only 2 inches in 1959. Yankee Meadow had a snow pack of 44.9 inches with water content of 13.4 which compare. to an 11.0 average over the pa'. 13 years. In 1961 the water content con-tent was 10.8, in 1960, 8.4, and in 1959, 5.4. At Ed Ward Flat, also in Parowan Par-owan Canyon, the 11.7 inches of. fitter cor.tair.cd ir. z sr.c.v pscl; 30.2 inches deep is above the 7.9 inch average, and far ahead of the 9.8, 6.4 and 2.9 recorded at a similar date in 1961, 1960 and 1959, respectively. |
