Show Explorer Scouts TiU Embark On Winter Trek Explorer Scouts from throughout through-out the area have been extended an invitation to participate with Ihe Explorer Scouts of the Cedar JRreaks District in an exciting "Explorer Winter Trek," Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3, and 4. Plans call for a ski and snow shoe trek Into Cedar Breaks National Na-tional Monument where the group will stay overnight and return. Karl Iv.gerberg, an expert on skiing and snow survival, will act as guide for the trek that promises pro-mises to be a thrilling experience for all those who plan to participate parti-cipate The party will leave from the Cedar First Ward Church on Friday. Fri-day. Feb. 3 at 1:30 p.m. They will travel by car to the Junction Junc-tion of Highway Utah 14 and the Cedar Breaks Highway. From that point the skiers and those on snow shoes will leave the automobiles and travel via their respective mode to Cedar Breaks that afternoon. It is a lour mile trek, mostly climbing. That night the group will camp at Cedar Breaks and a special campfire program has been planned. Alter a night in four feet ol snow the Explorers and their leaders will begin the return trip Saturday morning. According to "the plan those on snow shoes will Tetyn to the Utah 14, Cedar Breaks Junction where they will be met at approximately noon. Those on skis, however, will continue around the rim of Cedar Ce-dar Breaks, beneath Brian Head and will ski down Parowan Can-.yon Can-.yon where they will be met by . iautomobile at the end of the hard I .surfaced road. This trek from Ce-dar Ce-dar Breaks to Parowan Canyon lis approximately 11 miles. Invitations and instructions as tto clothing, bedding, food, ttc, :have been sent out to all Explorer Explor-er Troops. These troops in turn are making their plans for transportation trans-portation to the kick off point .and return. Mr. Lagerberg will serve as general guide and other personnel person-nel will be assigned from Cedar Breaks District to direct and supervise sup-ervise the trek. In addition to necessary supplies sup-plies the Explorer Scouts have . been advised to bring along their cameras for some spectacular scenic pictures of Cedar Breaks In winter clothing. |
