Show WHAT THE BIBLE TEACHES WHAT IS REPENTANCE? By BOB REYNOLDS In answering this question I will first point out some things that repentance is not, or some things that are often mistaken for repentance. Repentance is not just being be-ing sorry for one's sins, but Godly sorrow for sins leads one to repentance (2 Cor. 7:10). Conviction of sin is not the same thing as repentance. The Pentecostians were convicted con-victed of their sins to the extent that they wanted to know what to do (Acts 2:37). Peter commanded them to repdnt (Acts 2:38), so we know that conviction and repentance are not the same things. Neither is reformation of life repentance re-pentance because reformation follows repentance. It is the fruit of repentance, but is not repentance itself. We have noticed some things that are not repentance, now let's notice what repentance is. The dictionary defines de-fines repentance as a resolution to amend one's life as a result of regret for one's sins. Repentance may also be defined de-fined as: (1) a sorrow for sin which leads one to turn from it and seek forgiveness; (2) a change of w ill w hich results in a change of life; (3) a turning one's spiritual self from sin unto God. To state it another way, repentance may be scripturally defined as a change of will in regard to sin which results in a change of life. Next week we will notice some examples of people who repented, as found in the Bible. Schedule of Services SUNDAY 10 a. m. Bible Study 11 a. m.
