Show TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I would like to straighten out the record concerning the article that appeared in last week's issue is-sue of the Iron County Record, which stated that I had resign ed as City Street Supervisor. 1 want to state here that I did not resign In anv way, shape or form. I WAS FIRED. HERE ARE THE FACTS: I have been told for some time that several of the City Council-men Council-men were out to get my Job, but the first I knew of my dismissal when when Mrs. Bethcrs, the Deseret News representative, called call-ed my home for a statement of my resignation. She was told that I knew nothing of my resignation and to call Mayor Anderson. She said that it was in the minutes of the Council meeting Jan. 19, This was Saturday, Jan. 21. at 11 a. m. At 1 p.m. the same day. Mayor May-or Arnold Anderson came to my home and asked me to sign a statement to the effect that I had resigned. I told him I would not sign a statement like that after I was fired. When I asked him the reason for my dismissal he replied the only reason was my age, no politics, no com- plaints about my work or anything any-thing else, yet the Mayor has voluntarily told me several times in the last month or so that the "politicians were after me." l Since when do they consider 40 years of practical experience in road building and maintenance i liability? As for my age, I think I can pass as gocxl an examination, ex-amination, physical or mental, as the average city employee, regardless re-gardless cf my ace. When I asked ask-ed the Mayor why I wasn't vl-vised vl-vised of my dismissal sooner, he replied, "he couldn't find me." Had there been an over-flowing irrigation ditch or a caved in sewer line I am sure I could have been found. Since becoming city road supervisor sup-ervisor I have tried to give the people of Cedar City a dollar's worth of service for every dollar I spent in this department. In closing, I want to state that I I appreciate the support Councilman Council-man Petty has given me in this matter and during the past year, and I wonder if the Mayor and City Council would have spent more time in discussing discus-sing important decisions to be made; as for an example: where to put our new Hangar at the i airport and nut so much about politics and handing in people's resignations for them, if the Cedar Ce-dar City Corporation wouldn't be several thousand dollars better off today?
