Show Popular Parowan Couple Recite Vows in Church Rites Miss Cretta Jean Mortensen and Wayne B. Merkley were united in marriage Saturday evening eve-ning with Bishop George F. Rowley Row-ley officiating. The marriage trwjk place in the Parowan Sec-old Sec-old .Ward Relief Society room, in the presence of immediate family fam-ily members and close f.iends. The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. Beulah Jones, as matron ma-tron of honor, and bridesmaids were Marsha Miller, Jackie Hammell, Anna Dee Macfarlane, Colleen Algor and Goraldine Skougard. Best man duties for the bridegroom were performed by his brother, Nelson Merkley, and ushers were Michael Wil' liamson, LaNel Topham and Eu gene Robb. A reception honored the Just-wed Just-wed couple later that evening, in the Relief Society room and banquet ban-quet hall. Guests were greeted by the parents of the young couple, cou-ple, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Mortensen Mor-tensen and Mr. and Mrs. Aird G. Merkley and members of the bridal party. The beautiful bride was lovely in a waltz length dress of Chan-tillly Chan-tillly lace and tulle, fashioned with a high neckline, tapering sleeves at the wrists and small ruffles on either side of the skirt. She carried a bouquet in a fan shape, composed of pink roses and white carnations, tied with white satin ribbon. Her veil of sheer bridal illusion was secured se-cured with a tiara trimmed with seed pearls. Homer Adams was master of ceremonies for the following program: pro-gram: a vocal duet, Vanda Mitchell and Helen S. Whitney with Deon Williams accompanying; accompany-ing; quartet, Mr. and Mrs. Alma Jones and Mr. and Mrs. James A. Worthen, with Mr. Worthen playing play-ing guitar accompaniment; vocal selection. Burton M. White, Cedar City, with Barbara Jane Bayles as accompanist; reading by Bill Wright; accordion solo, Heber Lund; reading, Mrs. J. Ferron Hacking, Vernal; clarinet solo, Wayne Eyre with L. N. Asay accompanying ac-companying on the piano; dance, La Von n a Jones; vocal solo. Mike Williamson with Jerrolyn Gurr at the piano, and a guitar duet by Stephen Mackelprang and Bren-da Bren-da cr.t!y. Pink and while ice cream and decorated cake squares were served for refreshments. The wedding cake of three layers was trimmed with pink rosebuds and green leaves. Pink candles in crystal holders added to the table ta-ble arrangement of the wedding cake. A larged crowd attended the reception, including the bridegroom's bride-groom's grandfather, Ellis Merkley Merk-ley of Salt Lake City. The young couple have been students at the Parowan High School where both were active In school events. The bride was editor of the school paper, cheerleader, cheer-leader, was chosen miss Betty Crocker Homemakcr of the year In her senior year and also participated. parti-cipated. In drama. She was a student stu-dent of CSU at the time of her marriage. Mr. Merkley was active in drama, music and athletics.-During athletics.-During the past year he has been attending the University of Utah on an "Honors of Entrance," scholarship. The newlyweds left Sunday for Salt Lake City where they will make their home and where Mr. Merkley will continue with his studies at the University. |
