Show LIVING IN THE ESCALANTE VALLEY JTA PBOGRAM CHANCED; HEALTH CLINIC CANCELLED The final meeting of the PTA -will be held May 4 Instead of the date announced. The date was moved forward when the .-health clinic was cancelled. Mrs. Doris Pederson, PTA president, pres-ident, reports that the school will hold lessons In safety this week. Principal Don Applegate will he absent c .ring the first of the week, so the meeting will be held next week. The theme of the meeting will be "Safety In the Home and on the Farm." Two films will be shown by Wallace Sjoblom, county agent. All parents par-ents are urgod to be present. Patsy Del Vecchlo and Karen Neilson were among the students who took the historical trip to Salt Lake City. They visited the rteel mill. Bingham copper mine, BYU campus, the state capitol, the temple grounds, the zoo and Mveral other Interesting spots. They returned by Highway 89 visiting the Mantl Temple. They were entertained by seventh grade students in Salt Lake City and In Richfield. FIRE HITS WILLAHD RANDALL PROPERTY The fire bug has been trailing Willard Randall and sons In recent re-cent weeks. A few weeks ago they lost sheds and equipment In a fire. Last week another shed on other property was destroyed. Wednesday on a return trip from Los Angeles, a truck loaded with fertilizer and potato bags caught fire. The Inside of the cab and about one-third of the load was destroyed. Rodney Stahell, and LaVon Randall, barely escaped. I La Von was asleep when the fire started. A keen personal loss to La Von was his FFA Jacket and all of his award pins earned dur Ing high school. Delance Terry, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merry Terry of Enterprise Enter-prise was injured in an explosion last Thursday evening. He was experimenting with gun powder at his home when the explosion occurred. One of his hands was badly Injured, a piece of steel pierced his leg and the left side of his face was badly burned. CUB SCOUT PACK MEETING The Cub Scout pack meeting was held Friday night at the school under the direction of Mrs. rhyllis Wood, den mother. Theme of the meeting was "Down on the Farm." Freddie 'Torres received a "Bear" badge, and Kelly Wood received a "Bobcat" pin. Two new members, Tommy Scott and Glen Anderson, were welcomed. Following games and entertainment, entertain-ment, the members helped with window cleaning at the recreation recrea-tion hall. Wayne Holt entered the Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City last week for treatment for his back. He is reported to be greatly great-ly improved, and it appears that he will not have to undergo surgery. sur-gery. Charles Bosshardt went to the the Iron County Hospital Tuesday Tues-day where he underwent surgery. Maxlne Palmer of Enterprise and the Relief Society teachers, Mrs. Lon Chrlstensen and Mrs. Russell Chrlstensen, spent Thursday Thurs-day afternoon with Wilson Scott. Ronald Baze arrived from Fort Ord for a visit of several days with his uncle, Jack Crum. Ronald Ron-ald Is a former resident of the area. He left Tuesday enroute to his new station at Fort Hua-chuca, Hua-chuca, Ariz. Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Farnsworth and daughter were In Salt Lake City the first of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Austin Moylei and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Price spent last week end in Las Vegas. Ve-gas. They attended the air show. Mrs. Dee Freeman has arrived in the Valley to spend several days with her sister, Mrs. Wll-ford Wll-ford Fife. Mrs. Freeman spent the winter In California and is en-route en-route to her home In Burte, Mont. Mrr Belen Bentz of Beryl is now employed at the Cross Roads Cafe. Mr. and and Mrs. B. Neff are visiting Mrs. Neff's aunt, Mrs. Joe Del Vecchlo of Beryl. Mrs. Neff is the former Mary Ann Ward. They now make their home In Colorado. Rex Wood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bryner Wood, won first place In wood turning at Vocational Day at College of Southern Utah. Chester Parry of Cedar City is in the Valley constructing concrete con-crete ditches. He reports new ditches at Escalante Valley Farms and Norval Bracken were added thls week. Eugene Justet and Gale Fife of Cedar City were visitors In the Valley Saturday. . George Geftakys, Whittier, Cal.. was a week end guest of Mr. and Mrs. John Smith. He conducted services at the community church. Mr. and Mrs W. G. Curtis af rived this week from Perr'a, Cal., for a visit. Mr. Curtis has farmed In the Valley for the past several sever-al years. Mrs. Phyllis Wood, Marion Woolsey and Vivian Knell attended at-tended the Iron County School Board bond Issue meeting in Cedar Ce-dar City last week. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gardner and Mr. and Mrs. John McGarry Sunday Sun-day afternoon before leaving for California. BOT SCOUTS PLAN WEEK END TRIP The Boy Scouts plan a three-day three-day camping trip to Squaw Canyon. Can-yon. The boys will leave Friday night, accompanied by the leaders, lead-ers, Joe Del Vecchlo and George Jolley. They will get a chance to find out how much they have learned In the art of camping and survival. VALLEY STUDENTS TOUR CEDAR CITY George Jolley took the fourth, fifth and sixth grade sudents on a trip to Cedar City Thursday. The first stop was at the public library where the youngsters were allowed to check out books. They then went to the North Elementary Ele-mentary School to have their pictures pic-tures taker and to tour the school. Afterwards they were taken ta-ken to the high school to visit the art exhibit. A picnic lunch was enjoyed at the city park. In the afternoon they visited the new South Elementary School. About 21 students made the trip. WINDOW WASHING PARTY AT RECREATION BUILDING Several of the women of the valley gathered at the recreation hall for the purpose of window cleaning. Mrs. Ralph Gardner reports re-ports all the windows were cleaned clean-ed and are now ready for the drapes to be hung. After the 'work was done refreshments were served by Mrs. Gardner. ESCALANTE VALLEY LIONS SPONSOR CANCER DRIVE The Lions of the valley furnished fur-nished a car, driver and gas for the cancer drive. Mr.'. Pnyllls Wood and her campfinj girls collected col-lected in one section, Mrs. Don Applegate and her den of cub scouts took another. George Jolley Jol-ley and the scouts covered the balance of the area. Mrs. Wood reports about $50 was collected, and suggests that if anyone was missed, contributions will be accepted. |
