Show Committee Plans Further Action On CSU Expansion Discussion of the expansion program at College of Southern Utah and announcement of re--'-omendation for appointments to the Iron County Industrial Development De-velopment and plans for a full-time full-time secretary for the Chamber of Commerce, were In the agen-day agen-day fbr discussion at the regular regu-lar meeting Wednesday noon. A small group of chamber of commerce members were on hand for the discussion. Dixie Leavitt, chairman of the CSU expansion committee which is attempting to promote the inclusion of a secondary education educa-tion division in the CSU curriculum curric-ulum reported to those present In his report he indicated that the committee is still working with the special committee of the Board of Trustees, in an attempt to answer questions and give information in-formation that would be of help to them. He also stated that although CSU was recently accredited by the Northwestern Accrediting Association As-sociation at which time a recommendation rec-ommendation for the Inclusion of the secondary education program pro-gram was made, that another ac-credation ac-credation will be conducted on the CSU campus May 4, 5 and 6. Board of trustees has asked that this report should be heard before be-fore further action is taken. Committee for the Chamber of Commerce working- on the project of inclusion of this program met Tuesday evening and will recommend recom-mend that the special committee commit-tee of the board of trustees assigned as-signed to study the facts relative rela-tive to the proposed program meet with the commltee when the board will meet in session May 29 in Cedar City following commencement exercises at the college. - D. W. Corry, president of the chamber, reported that the county, coun-ty, upon the request of the chamber cham-ber and other integrated groups in the county, is organizing a county Industrial development committee and that recommendations recommenda-tions for membership on this committee will be submitted for consideration at the next meeting meet-ing of the commissioners. Recommended Rec-ommended on the committee from Cedar City were Mr. Corry, Mayor Arnold Anderson and Warren H. Bulloch. The committee will propose, pro-pose, he indicated, that if the county would appoint such a man that the Cedar City Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce will offer to pay half of his salary to serve in a semi-full-time capacity as executive execu-tive secretary of the Chamber of Commerce. Dr. J. S. Prestwich, president of the board of education, briefly discussed the upcoming bond election to be held by the school district to raise $2,900,000 for the building needs of this county. |
