Show Alfred Durham Dies In S. L. Rest Home Alfred Durham, 85, native of Parowan and prominent Utah churchman, legislator and edu-cator, edu-cator, died Tuesday In a Salt Lake City rest home of natural CAUSCSa A member of the LDS church, Mr. Durham had served the Church In many capacities. He was the composer of the Mutual Improvement Ascjcia-tion Ascjcia-tion song, "Carry On," and sever-al sever-al other Church hymns. Xia ho I honn hpnri of the D1U- slc department at Murdock Academy Aca-demy In Beaver, supervisor of music for Beaver and Logan city schools and had taught school in Salt Lake City. While at Murdock Academy, Mr. Dur-ham Dur-ham had also served as a theology theol-ogy teacher. Mr. Durham was born In Parowan Par-owan on Sept. 23, 1872, a son of Thomas and Caroline Durham. He married Margaret Richards of Parowan on Feb. 24. 1893. They had 10 children. Mrs. Durham died in January, 1931. Mr. Durham then married Ann Mathews of Salt Lake City In the Salt Lake Temple on Feb. 24, 1932. She died Feb. 11. 1948. On Dec. 23, 1948, he married Del-la Del-la Orme, Salt Lake City, formerly former-ly Mrs. John S. Tolley, in the Salt Lake Temple. Survivors Include two sisters, Mrs. Miller D. Robinson and Mrs. Sarah D. Connell and a brother. Wllford Durham of Parowan; George H. Durham and Mrs. Joseph Jo-seph McGregor. Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be conducted con-ducted Friday noon at 2G0 E. South Temple. Salt Lake City. Interment will be in the Salt I Lake City Cemetery. |
