Show CSU Broncos Defeat Snow Badgers. 32-25. The Badgers, very Impressive Impres-sive both on the ground and in the air, refused to give up and staged three sensational scoring scor-ing drives to close the gap to 32 to 25 as time ran out. The game was filled with long runs, thrilling -passes, and good blocking and tackling. Ground Gainers The Broncos opened with a crushing ground attack to put over the first score in the early minutes of play with Duane Ford crashing over from the four yard line for the first touchdown. touch-down. Before the quarter ended, however, Delbert Christiansen crossed the goal line for a Snow touchdown that tied the score. In the early stages of the second sec-ond quarter, the Broncos went on a rampage to score 19 points in a matter of three minutes. Gaylen Lewis started the fire-works fire-works by blocking a Badger punt which Rand Burr recovered on the Snow six yard line. On the next play, Arnold Page skirted" his own left end to score. Duane Ford and Rand Burr combined to cover the remaining distance on a beautiful pass play and the score stood 19-6. Widen Margin The Badgers executed two plays following the klckoff, but again their passing game backfired back-fired as an intercepted pass gave CSU possession on the 29-yard marker. A screen pass and a five yard plunge by Vee Wadsworth gave the Broncos another six-pointer six-pointer and a comfortable 25 to 6 halftime edge. The extra point attempt was good, and with the score standing at 32-6 it looked like a run-away for CSU. At this point the determined visitors started a rally that seemed seem-ed to coincide with an apparent Bronco let down and literally ran wild for the remaining minutes min-utes of the game. Vern Budge led a driv that carried to the goal lint then plunged over for the second score for his team to make the score read 32 to 13. Mo-ments Mo-ments later, the Badgers moved Into Bronco territory and Budge dropped back and heaved a beautiful pass into the arms of a teammate standing in the end zone. The score now read 32 to 19. Bottle Grimly The visitors were still two touchdowns behind and only minutes left, but both teams continued con-tinued to play as if the score was tied and the championship ; at stake. The Broncos, apparent- , ly wanting to add another score, attempted to pass at the Snow 40 yard line. The pass was intercepted intercep-ted at about the 20 yard line and returned to midfield. Then with only time enough left for one or two more plays, Budge broke through the Bronco line and outran the defenders to ring up a final touchdown on a 51 yard run, to close the Bronco margin to 32 to 25. In other games of the conference confer-ence the Dixie Rebels managed a 19 to 14 victory over a winless Weber College team, and the Carbon Eagles picked up a 20 to 13 victory over Ricks College, also al-so winless this season. The Boise Broncos, this week's CSU opponents, oppon-ents, currently holding second place in the conference with a 2-0 record, walloped the USU Frosh 42 to 7 Saturday. |
