Show The Christmas Seal Campaign Each year, as the Christmas season approaches, the National Tuberculosis Association carries on its annual Christmas Seal campaign. And it would be hard indeed to find a cause more worthy of public interest and support. Great strides have been made in fighting tuberculosis tuberculo-sis due in no small part to the work of the Association, and to the financial success past sales have achieved. But a great deal more remains to be done and must be done. The latest estimates indicate that 250,000 Americans have active TB, 100,000 of them unknown to health authorities. In addition, there are 1,750,000 people with inactive TB, and 550,000 of them are still in need of medical supervision supervi-sion or public health follow-up. And an estimated 55 million mil-lion Americans a third of the population are infected .wlih the germs that cause TB. Some 2,700,000 of thus huge group will develop TB in their lifetimes, if the present rate of development or disease from infection continues. Early diagnosis and immediate treatment are essential essen-tial in the control of TB. Education of the public and continued con-tinued research are other vital weapons in this war. The Christmas Seal Sale supports the work of 3,000 voluntary tuberculosis associations in this country and its possessions. posses-sions. Significantly, of the money raised each year in local lo-cal communities, 94J remains within the state. The campaign begins Nov. 15 and will continue through December. Do your part by buying seals. |
