Take Softball Lead Columbia Iron Mines is presents pres-ents leading the Cedar City soft-ball soft-ball league, winning their first three encounters of the second half of play. Desert Mound, close behind, has won two and lost none and threatening Columbia. Present team standings are as follows: Team won lost pet. Columbia 3 0 1.000 Desert Mound 2 0 1.000 Utah Parks 2 2 .500 Utah Const 1 2 t .333 Bradshaw 0 2 .000 Record 0 2 .000 In games played during the past week Columbia won two encounters, en-counters, downing Bradshaw Chevrolet, 13 to 4, and Utah Parks, 8 to 2. Keith Cripps started start-ed the miners out against Bradshaw, Brad-shaw, belting out a home run, the first man to come to bat. Later Lat-er in the evening Cripps knocked his second home run. Kent Dover also knocked a home run in the high scoring game. No extra base hits were made by the Bradshaw Brad-shaw squad. Against Utah Parks, Columbia out-hit and out-fielded the Parks team. The winners col-nected col-nected six hits to ttie Park's four and committed only one error compared to six committed by the Parks. Dover and Leo Ca-hoon Ca-hoon scored the only two extra base hits, both hitting doubles. Max Shields did the chucking for Columbia and Dotson was behind be-hind the plate. Desert Mound's only encounter of the week saw that team shut out the Utah Construction team, 10 to 0. Stunsenegger, chucking for Desert Mound, allowed only four hits to the Construction crew. Utah Parks scored its second win of the second half against the lion County Recocrd, 7 to 6, coming from behind in the last half of the seventh inning. Nolan No-lan Stakes for the Record was the big hitter of the evening, belting out two home runs, one with one man on and the other a grand-slam home run. Stokes knocked in all six of the Record runs. Benny Madsen, short stop for the Parks was outstanding in the field as well as at bat. He played errorless ball in the field and belted out three singles in four trips to the plate. Wednesday the Iron County Record and Bradshaw Chevrolet battle it out for cellar honors, when they play a make-up game. Also the two leading teams will battle for first place honors with Columbia and Desert Des-ert Mound taking the field in the early game. Monday, July 28, Utah Construction Con-struction plays Iron County Record Rec-ord and Desert Mound tangles with Bradshaw Chevrolet. Wednesday, July 30, Utah Con-struction Con-struction battles Columbia and Desert Mound and the Record meet in the nightcap. |
