Show City-Wide Street Oiling Delayed By Machine Failure The city-wide street oiling program pro-gram undertaken this summer under a special bond Issue voted by the people In 1951, has been delayed considerably, during the past three weeks, because machinery ma-chinery for the mixing of the oil and gravel mulch has not been available. According to City Manager Thomas Thorsen, a mixing machine ma-chine was contracted for to begin be-gin work on July 1, and a crew of men had been employed to rush the work to completion. However, a break down of the machine has caused repeated delays de-lays and the oil mixing has not yet been started. The latest information in-formation available, Mr. Thorsen says, "is that the machine will be ready and work started before the end of the present week." In the meantime work of grading grad-ing the streets and hauling gravel gra-vel has continued, and nearly all streets are now ready for the actual ac-tual surfacing. Work will be rushed In order to complete the project before cold weather interferes in-terferes with the proper handling of the surfacing material. Bids for seal coating all streets now surfaced and all streets to be surfaced in the present program, pro-gram, will be opened by the city council on Tuesday, July 29. It is expected that seal coating will get under way as soon as the oil mulch is spread. ' |
