Show Commission Post Most Popular In County Politics As Candidates File At a late hour Wednesday afternoon af-ternoon no Democratic candidate had filed for nomination to the position of Representative to the State Legislatures from Iron county. However, it has been rumored ru-mored that Carol Brown of Cedar City, an active labor union member, mem-ber, would file before the deadline dead-line Is reached. It is expected that he would receive united labor la-bor support in addition to the usual party support If he enters en-ters the race for the house of representatives. Heber M. Sevy, Republican, who represented the county In the state legislature during the current term, is seeking re-election and is the only candidate to file on the Republican ticket for the position. The office of four-year term county commissioner seems to have become very popular as the deadline for filing designations of candidacy nears, since seven men, four Republicans and three Democrats, have entered the race for this office. The Republican deadline for filing was Saturday, July 19, and as the filings closed four candidates can-didates had filed with the County Coun-ty clerk. The four candidates for the nomination on the Republican Republi-can ticket are David L. Sargent, member of the Branch Agricultural Agricul-tural college faculty and farmer; tlrant A. Hunter, farmer and livestock live-stock man; Don W. Draper, oil and gasoline distributor, and Arnold Ar-nold A. Anderson, real estate and livestock man. All are from Cedar Ce-dar City. Warren H. Bulloch, Democratic Democra-tic Incumbent filed last week for nomjnation for re-election to that county commissioner post, and early this week two other Democrats jumped into the race. Kumen S. Gardner and Myles Walker, both active members of the Democratic party, filed for the office. Jess Guymon of Parowan, Republican, Re-publican, who has served on the Board of County Commissioners for the past two years, was one of the first to file for re-election. On the last day of filings, however, how-ever, an opponent for the nomination nomin-ation entered the race, Richard F. Jones, Newcastle farmer and rancher. Only one Democrat has entered the race for the two-year county coun-ty commissioner post, S. Mario Topham of Parowan, having been listed as a candidate for the office. of-fice. As a result -of the filings to date there will be three primary contests in the county, the Republicans Re-publicans being faced with the task of selecting nominees for both county commission posts, The only primary contest on the Democratic ticket will be for the nomination for the four-year commission post. Candidates for the four-year . commission will be reduced tc two men on each ticket at the party convention meetings early in August. However, there is a possibility" that withdrawals before be-fore the convention dates, may eliminate the necessity of party officials making a selection. |
