Show Wholesome Influence Pointing to the importance of supervised recreation to the welfare of the young people of any community in our editorial columns last week we praised the work of recreation supervisor Geo Petty in his program of "Little league" baceball. This week we shall like to point out another very worthwhile contribution to the welfare and happiness of the youngsters of Cedar City, and direct a bit of praise toward to-ward a man, who through his genuine leadership wields a tremendous influence on the young people of the community. commu-nity. We refer to Wallace "Red" Osborne, who for years has directed the activities at the Cedar City municipal swimming pool, and who has not just "held a job," but has devoted much time to teaching boys and girls of this city to swim, and taught them the principles of water safety. During the morning hours he provides swimming instruction for hundreds of youngsters, and during the afternoons af-ternoons is in charge of the pool when more hundreds gather there to enjoy a refreshing swim. At all times he has provided a wholesome influence on the young people who come under his supervision each day, and their good conduct at the pool reflects that influence. 1 The municipal pool and the supervision provided there provides unusually wholesome recreation for the young people of Cedar City. It provides a clean, wholesome whole-some and safe program of activity for boys and girls of all ages, and the people of Cedar City, particularly parents of youngsters, should wholly appreciate the service. |
