Show Officials Confer on Forest Fire Prevention, Suppression Campaign for County in 1952 W. E. Tangrcn, assistant state forester-fire warden for Utah, conferred h'r Friday with Sheriff Sher-iff Arthur Nelson on a new forest five prevention-suppression campaign cam-paign for Iron county. As sheriff, sher-iff, Mr. Nolson also serves as county five warden. Mr. Tangren praised Sheriff Nelson's plan for fire prevention in this area. Pointing out that public awareness aware-ness of the causes and consequences conse-quences of forest fires is basic to any prevention campaign, Mr. Tangren stated that the new program pro-gram will involve the cooperation coopera-tion of schools, civic organizations, organiza-tions, clubs, radio stations and newspapers in emphasizing the responsibility of individual campers, camp-ers, picnicers and hunters in reducing re-ducing the incidence of destructive destruc-tive forest and range fires. Sheriff Sher-iff Nelson's plan covers protection protec-tion of both private and state-owned state-owned land, Mr. Tangren said. Fire righting throughout the state i.s carried on by a joint federal-state organization called 'the Utah Cooperative Fire Fighters, Fight-ers, comprised of the U. S. For-service, For-service, the Park service, the Indian service, the Grazing service, ser-vice, the state forester and local organizations. Sheriff Nelson's plan emphasizes development of facilities and . manpower for quick mobilization in the event of fire. The cooperative organization, organi-zation, coordinated by the state forester, insures the availability of all fire fighting resources of the state In case of a major conflagration, con-flagration, Mr. Tangren said. Mr. Tangren, who was chief ranger of the Salt Lake district of Wasatch National forest prior to his retirement from federal service in 1919, has been in forestry for-estry for more than 32 years. His Job as assistant state forester takes him to all parts of the state, where he confers with county ami state officials on their fire fighting programs and on integration of them with 1 1 t plans of the Utah Cooperative J Fire Fighters organization. |
