Show 4-H Heads, Ideals Win Plaudits At Banquet Fete Seventy-eight 4-H leaders of Iron County were honored at a banquet given by the Bank of Southern Utah and the Bank of Iron County Friday, Nov. 30 at 6 p. m. in El Escalante hotel. The honors were in recognition of outstanding work in county extension ex-tension work during the past year. Dr. Carl Frischknecht, director of USAC Extension service addressed ad-dressed the group, declaring that "4-H is one of the most dynamic and challenging youth programs yet conceived, because it seeks to develop the personalities and abilities of the young people who participate. These leaders for theire-Awmn deserve special commendation for their services to the young people of this county, services which have been both voluntary volun-tary and unpaid." Carl Cox, Iron county 4-H leader, lead-er, was presented with a medal for exceptional leadership during the year. He was one of the six 4-Hers in the state this year to receive the medal, which is presented pre-sented annually by the Farm Bureau. Bu-reau. Miss Fern Johnson, 4-H Foreign For-eign Exchange student who recently re-cently returned from England, gave a brief description of rural English families. She is currently touring the state to report on her findings abroad. Dr. Frischknecht paid tribute to the bankers for their consciousness con-sciousness of the importance of the 4-H program. "This program," he continued, "makes creators and producers of our young r eo-pie eo-pie they learn to do by doing." Pointing out that 4-H work emphasizes the family relationship relation-ship to young people, Dr. Frischknecht Frisch-knecht declared that "character, industriousness, resorucefulness, citizenship, spirituality all fundamental fun-damental values in society are being inculcated by these leaders. lead-ers. This is a program that should be expanded to include still more young people, even those in urban areas." Mrs. Stanford Jones, Enoch, also addressed the group, while musical numbers for the program weer provided by the BAC music department under the direction of Prof. Roy L. Halversen. |
