Show Car. Truck Accident at Knoll Injures floed Couple. Truck Driver Escanes Two elderly Minnesotans were injured, one of them critically, when the car in which they were riding went out of control on a snow-covered highway and collided col-lided almost head-on with a van. The wreck occurred about 9:30 a. m. Wednesday on Highway 91 fin a curve one mile north of Cedar Ce-dar City. Chester P. Neal, 74, Minneapolis, Minnea-polis, Minn., was reported in critical condition Thursday afternoon af-ternoon with multiple bruises, abrasions and apparent brain injuries. in-juries. His wife, Louise M. Neal. 73, who suffered a scalp wound and minor abrasions, was in excellent ex-cellent condition. The driver of the van, Arthur Wayne Myers, 34, Salt Lake City, was uninjured. unin-jured. The accident occurred following follow-ing a six-inch snowfall Wednesday Wed-nesday morning. The Neal machine ma-chine was traveling south when in negotiating the curve Mr. Neal apparently swung to the far right-hand side of his lane to pass a first truck. Skidding in a patch of deep snow and slush, the Neal machine careened out of control into the opposite lane and into the path of the Myers truck, which was following several sev-eral hundred feet behind the first truck. Mr. Myers tried to swing out of the path of the oncoming car, but after the impact the truck slid from the shoulder of the road and overturned, coming to rest left side up on a steep embankment, sustaining considerable consid-erable body damage. The -Neal machine was demolished. 1 Sheriff Arthur Nelson, Cedar (City chief of police Tony Lambert Lam-bert and State Highway patrolman patrol-man Thomas Scmmens conducted conduct-ed a joint investigation of the crash. In extracting Mr. Neal from the wreckage it was necessary to employ jacks, Chief Lambert reported. re-ported. Mr. Neal's condition prevented an immediate examination of Ills injuries, attending physicians said. Examinations Thursday disclosed dis-closed a paralysis of the entire right side of the body, Indicating a probable rupture of a blood vessel in the brain, the doctors stated. |
