Show Cedar Elks Vote Return of Library to City The members of the Cedar City Elks lodge in meeting Wednesday Wednes-day night voted unanimously to sell the public library building back to the City if the City council approves the purchase. The council had previously instructed in-structed the City Manager to confer con-fer with lodge officials and determine de-termine whether or not the property prop-erty could he acquired, and the vote last night was taken as a result of this inquiry. The building had been sold to the lodge, when the city was contemplating the construction of a new library, and the contract con-tract provides for the Elks to tftke possession on Jan. 1, 1952. However, problems of finance and increased building costs has made it impossible, for the city to build the proposed new library, li-brary, resulting In the city's attempt at-tempt to retain the present building. The purchase price of the property prop-erty was placed at $35,200 and the lodge made a down payment of $3,520 or 10 per cent of the purchase price. Later improvements improve-ments and repairs were made on the building at a total cost of $3,477.69, and the lodge has agreed to turn title to the building build-ing back to the city upon the payment of these two sums, a total of $6,967.69, plus 2 per cent interest from the time of the expenditures. ex-penditures. Officials of the lodge state that the members felt that as citizens of Cedar City their interests in-terests in the welfare of the community com-munity should prompt them to cooperate fully with the city in solving the problem of continuing contin-uing library service to the people. |
