Show Servicemen's Wives, Mothers Feted At V.F.W. Banquet Mothers and wives of Iron county men serving in the armed forces were honored Friday, Nov. 30, at a buffet supper and program pro-gram given by the Cedar City auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in the First ward recreation recrea-tion hall. Mrs. Faris Leigh was in charge of the event, while Eula Gardner served as master of ceremonies. A capacity crowd attended the supper, it was reported by Mrs. Idonna Maithies, president of the auxiliary. Mrs. Lane Austin of Beryl, and Mrs. Eldon Reese and Mrs. Max Hunt of Cedar City, were winners in a drawing for prizes. Mrs. Maithies addressed the group, describing the work of the VFW auxiliary throughout the county, particularly the home maintained for widows of the Korean War and children orphaned or-phaned by the war. Appearing on the program were Mrs. Camilla Beatty, who gave the opening prayer; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wood, who sang two duets; Lois McConnell, !who sang two solos; Jackie Win-terrose, Win-terrose, who gave a ballet number num-ber and a novelty number; Juanita Hanzon, who gave two readings; Sharon Givan, a dance number; Mrs. Kent Dover, two accordion numbers, and Yvonne Skillman, Jeannine Gower and Valene Adams, who gave a ballet number. Sarah Jensen, Beth Leigh and Mrs. Ace Terry were accompanists. Announcement was made that the auxiliary's Kris Kringle drive for gifts to needy children is under way, according to Mrs. Maithies. |
