He succeeds Dr. John Beal, also of Cedar City. Unopposed in the election, Mr. Smith was elected unanimously, there being no write-ins. While the number of votes cast in past elections has averaged more than 100, ballots cast in the Wednesday election numbered only 43. The fact that Mr. Smith ran unopposed no doubt was the reason for voter apathy, school officials said. The Iron county school board is composed of five members, one of which is elected each year. Board members elect their own officers, and have jurisdiction jurisdic-tion over all county schools, hiring hir-ing of teachers, budgets. ' and school problems in general. |
