Show Talk on Middle East Highlights Rotary Club Program The Importance of the middle east, particularly the countries of Turkey, Iraq and Iran, to the western powers, was discussed at the Rotary club meeting on Tuesday by guest speaker Edwin Ed-win L. Teterson of the Branch Agricultural college social science sci-ence department. The speaker pointed out that the population of the middle east countries, joining Europe, Asia and Africa, is sharply divided, di-vided, with 20 per cent very well to da and the remaining 80 per cent very poor, and that it is this poor class that Is swayed by communist propaganda, because they feel that their condition cannot be made any worse and that any change made may be for the better. It was pointed out that almost all world air lines nave airports and stop in the middle east, coming from north, south, east or west, and that flying conditions are always favorable because of the flat country and dry climate. The speaker also pointed out that 10 per cent of the land can be cultivated, and that the area contains the biggest known source of oil In the world, and expressed the opinion that the 4-point 4-point program is the best plan yet devised to help the countries in the middle east areas. The program was In charge of William Merryweather, chairman of the membership committee, and in addition to Prof. Peter-son'stalk, Peter-son'stalk, two short classification talks were given by Willard Jones and Glen Froyd. |
