Show Change in School Board Membership j To Result From December 5 Election j A change in membership of the Iron County Board of Education' will result from the election in District No. 4, including that portion por-tion of Cedar City west of Alain street and south of Center street. The term of Dr. John Beal, who has served on the board for the past five years, expires on Dec. 31, and he will not lie a candi- date for re election. Dr. 1'eal was .appointed as State Senator from I this district to fill the unexpired term of L. N. Marsden, Jr., who I had resigned because of poor health. Because of holding this position, Or. Beal declined to seek re-election to the school j board. I The name of only one candidate candi-date has been filed for the position po-sition to succeed Real on the board, five members of the district dis-trict entering the name of Boyd Smith, local livestockman and lumber mill operator, for the po-1 po-1 sition. No other candidate was named but the election wi'l be held ns planned on Dec. 5. The only possibility pos-sibility of Pmith having any opposition op-position would come from write-in write-in activities, which is a very remote re-mote possibility, and it is assumed as-sumed that the candidate will serve on the board for the next five years. I The men who filed Mr. Smith's name and thus qualified him as la candidate were John S. Chris-tensen, Chris-tensen, Guslive O. Larson, II. Marvin Jones, Ray Knell and Webster Leigh. The other members of the board of education, one representative repre-sentative from each of the other four districts, are Samuel Abbott Ab-bott of Paragonah, Herman E. Bayles of Parowan, Dr. J. S. Prestwich and B. Glen Kenney of Cedar City. One member of the board is elected each year, and each member serves for a term of five years. |
