Ills trip to the National 4-H Club Congress is provided by the National Committee on Hoys and Girls Club Work. Records covering bis seven years in 4-H, show that he has raised 825 chickens in 1954-55 which were quite profitable. In 1955, he had six county exhibits ex-hibits and won first place at the Salt Lake County Fair for his vegetables. He received special poultry awards in 1953-55, and received a ribbon for his record book in 1955. He held the following follow-ing ofllce8 from 1950 through 1955: reporter, secretary, organist, organ-ist, vice-president, president and mayor. His local leader is Pearl Bullock. The 1955 State Health winner is Goldle Kester, 18, of Payson. In recognition of her outstanding work in improving the health of the family and community, the Kellogg Co. is providing her trip to the Club Congress. Goldle has practiced, in her Health project, proper diet, correct cor-rect posture, exercise and adequate ade-quate rest since 1948. She conducted con-ducted a program of killing rats and files for her own home and those In the community. She took water samples of all the farms lu the vicinity and had them tested and in so doing discovered unsafe water supplies. She practiced cleanliness and sanitation In raising her animals, and has devoted many hours to making helpful articles for the local hospital. She Is a member of the Six Sewing Sister 4-H Club led by West Mountain and Hernlce Thompson of Utah county. Ruth Peterson Marcie, Smith Ruth Peterson, 20, of Fillmore, is the 1955 state Girls' Itecord winner. Her outstanding achievement achieve-ment in home economics projects has won for her a trip to the Club Congress, provided by Montgomery Mont-gomery Ward. During her 10 years in club work, the 20-year-old 4-H'er carried car-ried a wide variety of projects including clothing, beef, home improvement, foods and leadership. leader-ship. She made 38 demonstrations, 121 exhibits and participated in judging contests, and dress revues. re-vues. Her clothing projects consisted of making 57 garments. Her achievements were: seven beef, 37 activities in home improvement; improve-ment; prepared C8 dishes, and preserved 57 cans of food. She was a Junior leader for more than five years, and helped 36 members. Her local club leader is Leona D. Rlckenback. Marcla G. Smith, of Santaquln, has won state honors in the 1955 4-H Home Improvement program. The Sears-Hoebuck Foundation Is providing her trip to the Club Congress in recognition of the work done in making the interior of her home more comfortable and attractive. In carrying out the project, the 19-year-old 4-H'er designed an original bedspread, quilt and braided rug. She purchased unfinished un-finished furniture, and finished it. She made pillow cases, sheets and dresser scarfs. Along with making the accessories, she painted and papered her room and the kitchen, bedroom, hall and bathroom. Marcla is in her freshman year at the Drlgham All these programs are conducted under the direction of the Cooperative Extension Sorvlce. |
