Show JUNIOR HI - LITES by By CYNTHIA WILLIAMS Hi Folks! My, this has been an exciting week at the Junior High School! The first three days went by quite slowly and all the time students are dreaming of "pud-din' "pud-din' and pies" instead of concentrating con-centrating on thuir school work. But right soon after the 4 o'clock bell rang on Wednesday, things really started to happen! First of all it was the beginning of the Thanksgiving holiday that will last until Monday of next week. Then too, at 8:00 p. m. that same evening the Girls Day Dance was he'd in the recreation room of the Third Ward chapel. Everyone had a nice time. The Cedar Junior High school students have an advantage over practically every junior high in the state of Utah. This advantage Is the choice of classes we have for the 11 o'clock period. Students may choose a subject that they enjoy, from a wide variety of classes. Some of these are Dramatics, Dram-atics, Chorus, Journalism, Photography, Photo-graphy, Art, Business Math, Band, Aviation or Industrial Arts. These clubs have been going) very nicely so far, and some very interesting projects are developing. develop-ing. The members of the Aviation Club are making airplane models and working hard to have everything every-thing in readiness for a coming contest. In the Photography class students stu-dents are printing and develop. Ing pictures for the 1955 and 56 pdltion of the Junior High yearbook. year-book. The students of the Business Math cjass are doing outstanding ( work this year. Besides doing mathematics they work in the school store and bank. The profits they make from the store are used to pay interest on the money mon-ey in the bank. The interest rate is 3 per cent per month. The second edition of th "Teen-Age Times", the school newspaper, came out Wednesday. The journalism class publishes the paper under the supervision of Mr. Frank Jensen. They have made a number of improvements since last year and expect to put out an issue every two weeks now that they are more experienced exper-ienced with the stencils and machinery. ma-chinery. Many boys of the 11:00 o'clock Industrial Arts club have been completing very fine articles made of wood, leather and stone. However, Mr. C. L. Chatterley states that they could do a lot more if they were not always trying to keep out of the way on the workers on the new junior high buUding. Wednesday the student body was favored with an assembly. It consisted of vocal numbers, record re-cord imitations, hula and tap dances', a trumpet trio, and a piano duet. It was well planned and was very entertaining. On behalf of the student body I'd like to wish you all a wonderful wonder-ful Thanskgiving. |
