Show Pheasant Hunters Report On Field Conditions Reports from pheasant hunters in Iron County range from poor to fair success with very few of the bird hunters turning in reports re-ports of excellent conditions. A number of factors have contributed con-tributed to make a spotty hunt this season. First of all, conditions in the spring were not condu-j cive to raising broods in this area. Many of the young birds died that might normally have lived if conditions at that time had been right. Conditions at the time of the hunt is another factor fac-tor in favor of the few birds in the fields. After the first day birds took to the brush and owing to high winds, were hard to flush out into in-to the open. Hunters' with well trained dogs were generally the most successful as a result. Another factor that has been brought to the attention of local residents is the fact that a number num-ber of house cats, that have been disposed off in the valley, are killing off broods of pheasants. It was pointed out that th local police should be contacted to exterminate ex-terminate unwanted cats. A number num-ber of large cats were kil.led by hunters in the fields this season. sea-son. Reports from Cedar Valley, the Beryl area and Parowan Valley are almost Identical. Generally the hunting was poor with just spotty success over the three-day shoot. |
