Show www Baseball Diamond Project Gets Under Way The Cedar City baseball diamond dia-mond is taking on a new look tnese days, a new ,'ook in addition addi-tion to the snow that has blanketed blan-keted the area since Monday. Six dump trucks of the city and j Iron County, plus two .loaders and ja grader have been working at j I he diamond east of Coal Creek ! in an attempt to level the area I and prepare the grounds for next spring. Burns Sherratt, chairman of a special committee assigned by the City Council, is in charge of the project of leveling and preparing pre-paring the area for a more extensive ex-tensive recreation program affording af-fording an opportunity for a baseball base-ball program for older youngsters of the community. The field at the beginning ol the operation, as determined b the city engineering department is as much as two feet low in and around the home plate area. Sherratt indicated that approximately approxi-mately 2500 yards of fill dirt wUl have to be moved onto the field to complete the leveling process. Monday the operation got under un-der way and approximately 400 yards of dirt was moved onto the field through the combined efforts! ef-forts! of the city and county equipment and men. Work is continuing and the equipment will remain available until the operation is completed, Sherratt said. Weather No Hindrance Neither wind, rain or snow will halt the operation at this point either. Monday's high winds, rain and sleet did not halt the opening open-ing of the project and Tuesday morning, with about three Inches of snow on the field, the dirt was still being moved. Sherratt pointed up the import ance of completing the nil at tne present time. If the leveling can be completed now the fill dirt will have a chance to settle before be-fore spring, making it possible to make further preparation at that time so that the fie.'d mieht be used during the summer program pro-gram next year.
