Show JUNIOR HI - LITES by By CYNTHIA WILLIAMS Hi Friends! It looks like winter is here to stay, doesn't it? Although we miss the summer sunshine, 1 think we all enjoy winter with her lacy frost and dainty snow-flakes. snow-flakes. One thing that the students stu-dents at the Junior High School miss is the "light." Some of the c.'ass fixtures are still minus the light fixtures and it's like Mr. Chamberlain says, "I may have to strike a match to see some of you, but we'll make it through this class somehow." In spite of the inadequate conditions at this time things have been going pretty well during the last few weeks. Last Thursday the student body bo-dy enjoyed a wonderful Veteran's Veter-an's Day assembly in which many of the students and townspeople towns-people took part. We were favored fav-ored by numbers from the school band and the 11 o'clock chorus class. Patriotic readings were given giv-en bv Don Knipht and .Timmv MiVer. Milton Sevy gave a short talk on tho history of Veteran's Day, and Mrs. Lona Watson gave a tribute of appreciation to the veterans' and their parents, who were special guests at the pro-; pro-; gram. Mrs. Watson was very impressed im-pressed by the program and later lat-er wfote the following letter to ' Principal L. C. Miles: ! Cedar City. Utah Nov. 12, 1!).")3 ; Mr. L. C. Miles ; Cedar City, Utah 1 Dear Sir: I We wish to congratulate you as principal of the Cedar City Junior High School for the splendid splen-did patriotic program given by you and your student body, assisted as-sisted by the American Legion j Post 71 (and its auxiliary) on Veteran's Day, Nov. 11. 19.r5. In these organizations, next to the rehabilitation of our wounded wound-ed veterans and the care of orphans orph-ans and widows, comes our youth program, Boys' State, Girls' State and Nation Jr. Baseba.M and contests con-tests in schools for Americanism Essays, thousands' participaing. They are taught how our government gov-ernment functions. That for God and country we give service to t our fellowmen, and by so doing show appreciation for those who paid "The Supreme Sacrifice." Your patriotic program given under your direction the past few years is one of the most cutstand-in cutstand-in in the state of Utah. You are teaching your students to build a monument to peace for the veterans vet-erans who gave their lives. I am sure if the youth of America Amer-ica were taught appreciation for the great price of freedom as you are doing, we will have no fear of communists in our future generations. gen-erations. Very sincerelv, LONA I. WATSON Past State President, American Legion Aux. Auditions for an exchange assembly as-sembly will be held in the auditorium au-ditorium Thursday, today, after school. Many students have prepared pre-pared numbers for the auditions and those chosen, will travel to St. George and Hurricane to present pre-sent the program at those two schools. The whole school 's looking forward to the Girls' Day Dance which is to be held .-nNov. 23 at 8:30 p. m. Although the student stu-dent council hasn't made any arrangements for a place to hold it yet, It looks like fun for all.
